How long will it take to download a product?

The time taken is directly proportional to the length of the guide that you are downloading. With a cable/DSL or any other broadband connection your download time will be substantially less than with 56kb dial up. This is purely dependent on your internet connectivity, since different Internet Service Providers (ISP) offer different speeds. The download will be much faster if the internet traffic at that point of time is low. The following rules of thumb can be applied:

What kind of player I play my SoundGuide on?

Our guides are downloadable as MP3 audio files. This means that you will be able to play them on almost everything. Including an iPod®, Palm Pilot, PC, MP3 player, Cell Phone or with any audible-playing hardware device. Please check your own device for compabability prior to purchase.

I try to download, but all I get is a Server Error?

A couple of scenarios can cause a Server Error. Most common is that our servers are experiencing some temporary network problems. Normally, these problems are fixed within an hour; however, it is possible for them to go on longer. Try again in a short while

What do I do if my download is incomplete or corrupt

Simply download your SoundGuides file again before the authorisation expires.

I just downloaded and saved the file to my hard drive, but I forgot where it is. How can I find it again?

This is a common problem and the solution is very easy. Normally your web browser defaults to the same directory for every download, until you change it. An easy way to find out the download directory is to simply start another download. When asked, choose to save the file to your hard drive and the "Save As" window will appear, revealing your download directory.

What's the difference between MP3 and other audio file formats?

MP3 is an encoding format that compresses the size of an audio file so that more files can be stored on Portable Music Players with little reduction in the quality of the sound recording. MP3 was one of the first encoding formats to be developed, and the term is used as a general term to describe digital music, and digital music players in general. Modern Portable Music Players tend to play both MP3 and WMA file formats.

Can I burn my guide to an Audio CD?

Yes. If you prefer to listen to your guide on a portable CD player you can do so. However, you may find due to the comprehensive nature of the guides that they are too long to fit on a single disc and will require more than one CD.

What are the licencing issues concerning my downloaded SoundGuide?

To ensure that digital downloads are legal, a Licence is provided for each and every guide that you download from this site. You are permitted by this licence to make one copy only for personal use on a portable listening device in addition to the copy downloaded to your PC. My web browser asks me if I want to save or open the file. What should I do?

When downloading the software, your web browser may ask whether you want to save the file or open it from its current location. It is always recommended that you choose to save the file to a directory on your computer's hard drive. This way you can reinstall the software at a later date without having to download it again. After the download is complete, you can install the software by double-clicking on the file.

I downloaded a file and it wont play on my MP3 player?

Most MP3 files on public servers are named with strange extensions or are not descriptive to what file type they are. If you already tried renaming the extension of the file to .MP3 and it wont play it may be a COMPRESSED ARCHIVE file in various formats. Of which the most popular is obviously WINZIP. Try renaming to .ZIP and open the file in WinZip. There are other COMPRESSED formats and some have password encryption so you may need a password. In most cases we provide the password if we know it but 99% of the time the file is either an MP3 file or a WinZip file. One other occasionally used format is self-extracting archive. Try renaming to .exe and running it (BE CAREFUL SCAN FOR VIRUSES).

I cannot find the city or attraction that I'm looking for. Does this mean that you don't have it?

Before giving up, check that the city is not under development. If it isn't drop us an email at enquiries@sound-guides.com with the city you require and we'll let you know if its under research. The more requests we get for a given city the higher up our priority listings it will go.
